Considering the age of the current generation, we would normally consider the current Equinox quite fresh. However, things are a little bit different in reality, so the 2020 Chevy Equinox is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh.
The current generation has been around since 2017 and we are about to see changes already for the next year model. This will be a typical facelift, with lots of aesthetical changes. Also, we expect to see a couple of changes under the skin, including a new transmission and maybe even a new engine. We expect to see the new version sometime in the third quarter of the year.
- Efficient engines
- Great fuel economy with diesel engine
- Intuitive infotainment system
- Comfortable ride
- Dissapointing interior quality
- Small cargo area
Most of the upcoming changes are reserved for the styling. The 2020 Chevy Equinox is expected to receive a typical facelift. This would mean a lot of aesthetical changes, primarily at the front end, where we expect to see revisions in areas like headlights, grille, front bumper etc. Also, we count on a fine amount of changes at the rear end.
On the other side, the mechanical aspect should remain largely the same. The 2020 Chevy Equinox will continue to ride on a familiar D2 platform and share most of its parts with the corporate sibling, GMC Terrain.
Considering that the 2019-year model came with numerous interior updates, the 2020 Chevy Equinox is expected to come without changes on the inside. We are about to see a familiar cabin layout, with new color schemes as only possible changes. Other than that, the 2020 Chevy Equinox will continue with the cabin that is a bit of mixed bag.
Some surfaces feature disappointing quality which definitely can’t compete with popular competitors like Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 etc. On the other side, the Equinox comes with a pretty intuitive infotainment system and with a fine amount of tech features in the offer.
The base 2020 Chevy Equinox will continue with a familiar 1.5-liter turbo-four engine, which is good for about 170 horsepower. On the other reports, some reports suggest that the optional 2.0-liter turbo-four could be updated and get more power and better overall efficiency. The current version delivers around 252 horsepower. Finally, there is an economic 1.6-liter turbodiesel, with 137 horsepower.
It may not be the most exciting version to drive, but its 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway sound just amazing. Still, the biggest novelty for the next year should be a new 9-speed automatic transmission. It should replace the current 6-speed gearbox.
2020 Chevy Equinox Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the 2020 Chevy Equinox should hit the market sometime in the third quarter of the year. The price should remain the same, which means around 24.000 dollars for base versions.
