2019 Ford Explorer comes as almost unchanged this year, even though the last redesign happened in 2011. The reason for this is expected a redesign for 2020 model, so the manufacturer has not invested in changes that much for this time. However, Explorer is a carryover model and very attractive compact crossover, so we expect that it will have its buyers again even without major changes.
2019 Ford Explorer comes with only minor changes in design, and those are mostly details on the front bumper and in shape of the lights. The front end is attractively rounded with squared lights and interestingly meshed grille. The rear end is rounded and rounded, but with the slightly squared shape of the trunk door. The roof is almost flat, allowing large cabin and great visibility.
The manufacturer has not clearly said if they will change something in the cabin of 2019 Ford Explorer, so the interior design and equipment comes pretty much as the same. It is for sure that the manufacturer will include new materials and colors inside, with some minor changes in design. Infotainment system should come as upgraded, with new modernized functions. The cabin is wide and comfortable and has a very large dashboard with an 8-inch touchscreen in the center cluster. Details in wood and chrome provide a level of luxury and attractiveness.
For those who knew the engines that offered last year model, there are no surprises; the manufacturer offers the same models this time, too. The base model of 2019 Ford Explorer has the powerful 3.5-liter V6 that produces 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. There is another optional version with 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit with 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. There are also two trim versions called Explorer Sport and Platinum that should have 3.5-liter V6 but much stronger than the standard version, with 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. When it comes to the transmission, things are simple; all of them get the six-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately, although the vehicle has automatic emergency braking and forwards collision warning, it did not pass the safety test last year.
2019 Ford Explorer Release Date and Price
There are no huge changes in 2019 Ford Explorer, so the price should remain the same and stay close to the old price range. As the last year model has the price from $33,000 to $54,000, there are no reasons to expect much different number from that. Knowing that Ford has the same releasing date for all new models, we expect that Explorer will be shown at fall, most likely in September. When it comes to the competitors, those are usually from compact crossover class, like 2019 Toyota Highlander, Chevrolet Traverse, and Honda Pilot.
