Tesla is the name that comes in our mind when we think of electric, and has played an unprecedented role in popularizing electric cars. And again it has created a buzz in the market by announcing it’s planning to make a 2018 Tesla Pickup Truck. Speculations have been made by various experts that it will have features as listed below.
For Tesla it’s the place where they can show their futuristic technologies. Interior would be all leather upholstery and highly spacious where seats would be arranged in two rows and accommodation space for four people with the latest climate control (heating/cooling) technology. The dashboard will comprise of a HD Touch interface for satellite navigation along with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It’s well debated that the pickup will have a keyless entry or not.
According to currently available information the truck is likely to feature more conventional styling and is expected to offer a cargo bed size of 5.5 feet and a four door cabin configurations. The led headlights will show a similar trend as that of regular Tesla vehicles, slim and subtle. Along with grille-less front end it would provide aggressive front end. It is supposed to be equipped with rugged tires.
Engine and Performance
The upcoming truck is believed to employ Dual Motor Technology along with 4WD system. In order to compete with its rivals the motor output should be nearly equal to 400 Horsepower and well over 500 pounds of Torque, for this purpose they are willing to use an electric motor with a battery of around 150 kWh.
The performance of pickups can be rated on towing and hauling capacities. With battery of such enormous size the range of truck would be somewhere between 400 to 500 miles. And with the full load on it should be between 100 to 150 miles. The towing capacity should be around 10,000 pounds and hauling capacity must be 3,000 pounds and should be easily able to tow up to 6,500 pounds.
Not much has been known about the pricing of this truck, but with equipment and packages which it provides we can say that it’s not going to be cheap. According to experts it may be priced around $50,000. It’s quite expensive but combining with the fact that it won’t require maintenance much as compared to regular trucks and would save extra on fuel gives Tesla Truck an edge over others.
