Since the Porsche Cayman was first introduced in February, 2015, the Porsche fans have been wondering if the RS edition of this model will ever hit the market. Finally, the Cayman GT4 RS is going to make its appearance as a 2018 model.
Some would say that the exterior of the 2018 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS will present a certain combination of the previous Cayman GT4 and the 718 Cayman. So, you should not expect anything unique to come across. What we could first see up front are the wider headlights that will be using the new bi-xenon headlamps and the wider vents in the new bumper. The air intakes will also be larger and together with the redesigned bumper will give the new Cayman GT4 RS more aggressive appearance. The side skirts and the wider wheel arches will also appear improved. This model should be standing on new 20-inch wheels and get new mirror caps. Perhaps, the RS model has undergone the most significant changes in the back part. We have noticed the new taillights that will be using 3D LED technology. It will also sport a distinctive diffuser and rear wing, which will make the new GT4 ready to race.
Inside the 2018 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS you can expect a modern and racing cabin. You will find sports leather seats and a sports steering wheel. It will also get the features such as the Sport Chrono Package, the Sport Plus and the Track Precision App. Higher trims will probably provide carbon-fiber racing bucket seats that will be supportive and offer many options. Inside the cabin, you can also hope for an upgraded modern dashboard with the revised A/C vents and redesigned instrument cluster. When it comes to hi-tech features, those will include the latest infotainment system and various entertainment options such as a premium sound system, Porsche Car Connect, USB ports and Apple Car Play.
The mystery of the powertrain that the 2018 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS will be hiding under its hood has not been revealed yet, although we have been informed that it will be the fastest and most powerful of all Cayman models. It is being considered that Porsche might upgrade the 3.8-liter flat-six that the previous GT4 used, inspired by 911 Carrera S. Another possibility is the 4.0-liter engine found in 911 GT3 RS. Whichever engine they decide upon, the flat-six should be able to deliver 400 horsepower. The top speed of this model should go up to 187 mph and it is expected to take less than 4 seconds to hit 60 mph.
2018 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS Price and Release Date
Don’t expect the new Porsche Cayman GT4 RS to be cheap. In fact, it could be the most expensive Cayman so far. It will probably cost around $90,000 before options and it should hit the showrooms by the end of 2017.
