This year’s Geneva Auto Show has revealed a lot of next-generation models worth mentioning, but it seems that the star has definitely been the new Hyundai Kona EV. The fans of eco-friendly all-electric SUVs have already been so excited to see the 2018 Hyundai Kona EV and its two amazing battery choices.
When it comes to exterior of the 2018 Hyundai Kona EV, this model is going to hit the market as an all-electric crossover with very bold and distinctive styling. This SUV will be really attractive and innovative, especially for younger population. According to the information and some official photos we have got, the new Kona EV will mostly share its shape and overall bodywork with the standard gas model. However, some of the changes and improvements on this model will definitely catch your attention. You will first notice its different dimensions since the new Kona EV will be longer and taller than the standard gas model. It means that you can definitely expect more space inside its cabin. Besides its dimensions, another change can be found in the front fascia. Since the Kona EV will have no engine and the cooling won’t be necessary, this crossover will replace its grille with a solid panel. This modern, dynamic and a bit aggressive crossover will stand on 17-inch alloy wheels. It will be available in seven exterior colors and three color choices for its contrasting two-tone roof.
Inside the 2019 Hyundai Kona EV, the fans will find a spacious and modern cabin. You shouldn’t expect some extraordinary luxury for sure, but there will be plenty of updates and innovations that you will love. Besides the heads-up display, the driver will get a 7.0-inch touch-screen one with the infotainment system and lots of next-generation options such as Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Of course, you will also be able to choose an optional 8.0-inch touch-screen with navigation system. The new Kona EV will pay special attention to its advanced safety systems and driver assist features. Some of them will include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-keeping assist.
As we have already mentioned in the intro, the all-electric 2018 Kona will offer two lithium-ion battery pack choices. The first one includes a ‘short-range’ 39.2 kWh battery option which provides a range of 186 miles. This model will also be equipped with a 99 kW electric motor. The other version, found in its high-performance model, comes with a ‘long-range’ battery of 64 kWh that enables a range of up to 292 miles. The electric motor in this model provides 150 kW which helps the new Kona EV accelerate to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds only.
2018 Hyundai Kona EV Release Date and Price
Before it hits the US market, the 2018 Hyundai Kona EV will be first released in the Korean and European, probably in mid-2018. The price of this electric crossover should start around $30,000 or less.
