Only the real enthusiasts and fans of racing events will remember the great victory of Allan Moffat and Colin Bond when they were driving 1977 Falcon XC Hardtops. Forty years later, Ford Mustang is being inspired by and dedicated to one of the greatest race events and tracks in Bathurst, Australia. That’s why the Ford is bringing the new 2017 model named Ford Mustang Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special.
As we have already mentioned in the intro, the 2017 Ford Mustang Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special is going to be inspired by an old-school muscle car when it comes to exterior. In fact, it will get a real racing design with certain upgrades of exterior features, since this will be a 2017 model. For instance, the base color of the body will be white with the black hood and red and blue stripes going all the way the car’s sides. These stripes especially give this model an aggressive and race-inspired look. The special nameplates will be placed on the front doors. In the front fascia, the Bathurst Special will keep its aerodynamic design, wearing a larger spoiler and a redesigned mesh grille. It will be standing on new 20-inch alloy wheels. In the back, you will also notice that the rear spoiler appears larger as well.
It is hard to tell what you can expect inside the 2017 Ford Mustang Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special, but we believe that it will at the same time largely rely on the traditional Mustang interior styling and upgrading the hi-tech features. You can probably expect redesigned seats with various color choices and stitching patterns. In fact, Tickford revealed that this model will get blue seat stitching. It has also announced that it will provide a bespoke steering wheel, XC Hardtop red and a full OEM-spec leather interior. The aluminum parts and details, such as those on the door handles, will be used to achieve a sophisticated look. We are still not sure whether the Ford will go for a traditional and simple cabin, or it will offer an upgraded dashboard with a digital instrument cluster and Ford SYNC infotainment system.
Although it has not been confirmed yet what kind of powertrain the 2017 Ford Mustang Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special will be carrying under its skin, the most probable option will be a supercharged version of the GT model’s 5.0-liter V-8 engine. The output and performance of this racing icon have still been a mystery, although it has been estimated that such an engine should be able to deliver around 400 horsepower.
2017 Ford Mustang Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special Edition Price
Only the symbolic 77 units of the 2017 Ford Mustang Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special are planned to be sold. The price of this limited-edition racer has not been confirmed yet, but it will probably go over the GT’s price, which means more than $50,000.
